Therapeutic laser treatment has a long history in relieving chronic pain conditions, but only recently has the technology advanced enough to make it affordable for animal hospitals. At our South Loop Animal Hospital, we began offering pet laser therapy in 2017 and continue to use the technology for both healing of injuries and pain management.

What Is Is & How It Works
We use the Companion therapy laser system that sends photons, or light energy, deep into the tissue. The laser light acts as an energizer to your pet’s cells, causing them to produce more ATP, which cells need for recovery. More ATP means healthier, more active cells that can repair damaged tissue faster and more efficiently.
We use a non-invasive hand piece that hovers over the affected area. Your pet will feel a gentle soothing warmth as it relieves pain and inflammation. Pets often relax at this point—cats will purr and dogs may even fall asleep!
CONDITIONS PET LASER THERAPY CAN TREAT
Pet laser therapy is used to treat a myriad of conditions. Whether it is helping the healing process after surgery, or treating chronic pain, pet laser therapy is a great option. Here are some conditions it can help with:
- Chronic injuries
- Sprains and strains
- Arthritis
- Swelling and inflammation
- Skin conditions
- Wounds
- And more!
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER LASER THERAPY
Typically, after a pet laser therapy session, your companion will feel more relaxed and relieved from their pain. This may translate to more energized activity at home or a content, subdued nature. Luckily, there are no side effects. Depending on your pet’s condition, they may benefit from one session or a series. We will work to develop a program that suits both you and your pet.
